Research Duisburg and earlier

She calls painting her research. At the academy they once said that her work could only truly be “recognized” from a distance, because the paintings were (and still are) so wild and free. Distance here meant literally the meters between viewer and canvas: the diagonal of the painting multiplied by seven, an approach that makes sense when looking closely at her work.

In Duisburg, in her very first own studio - after years of sharing spaces and painting in corners at the very limits of possibility - the idea emerged: “We don’t eat blue pigs.” The thought behind it: a pig, clever enough to escape from industrial farming, disguises itself by painting its skin blue so that it will not be recognized.

This theme continues to this day. The Art Association on Weidenweg 10 in Duisburg is a wonderful place, offering excellent exhibitions and a great studio building. Later, the journey continued in W., when fuel prices rose too high.
